How can I find out more about Twitter in the Middle East?
The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) is short on online research and Twitter statistics in particular. Spot On PR has launched a number of initiatives over the years to provide marketing and communications professionals with more research data and insight on the region. In 2011, the Dubai School of Government began including Twitter statistics in its Arab Social Media Report. Since then many others have begun producing research on Twitter and other social media. Here are links to some of the reports:
Damian Radcliffe – Social media in the Middle East 2015 (January 2016)
ictQatar – Social media in the Middle East 2013 (January 2014)
Chatham House – To what extent is Twitter changing Gulf societies? (February 2013)
Arab Social Media Report 3 (DSC, July 2012)
Twitter & Customer Service Survey (March 2010)
MENA Twitter Demographics & User Habits Survey (Sept. 2009)

Okay, but who is @spotonpr?
We started experimenting with Twitter in 2008 and were looking for ways to make it practical. It turned out that we found everyone in the agency had interests on Twitter and things to say, but these weren’t exactly the same as what we needed for the company. So, @spotonpr is a company Twitter account. Most of the time these days it’s operated by Spot On’s managing director @CarringtonMalin. However, it is a Twitter account that we share and so anyone is liable to log-in and start tweeting!
Who do we follow?
Well, honestly, anyone and everyone that interests us, but we’ll try to narrow it down a bit! We are mainly interested in following digital marketing, communications, PR, and Internet professionals, journalists, bloggers and other people that share our interest in digital communications, media, marketing, journalism, press freedom and social media. We’re also quite proud of the fact that over 60% of our Twitter followers are from the Middle East and North Africa region.
What does @spotonpr tweet about?
In short, mostly about media, marketing, technology and arts in the Arab world including news about media, journalism, PR, advertising, marketing, social media mobile, Internet, start-ups, art, culture and film. Our business is quite focused on the Arab world and so are interests are skewed that way. We’re generally interested in what marketing and media people are doing around the Middle East and so are many of our followers, so we share news, information and tips.
Is Spot On PR on other social media?
